Rome/ Assisi/ Naples
Depart on a transatlantic flight to Rome, Italy.
Welcome to Rome! Upon arrival, the group will be met by our professional tour escort waiting outside the restricted customs area to greet and assist you to your private deluxe motor coach. Transfer to hotel for check-in. Dinner and overnight Rome. (B/D)
This morning, we will visit the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. In the afternoon, we will see some of the highlights of Rome, including the inside of the Coliseum, the Arch of Constantine, the inside of the Roman Forum, and a final stop at the Trevi Fountain. Free for dinner and overnight Rome. (B)
After breakfast, we depart for the scenic drive to Assisi, the mystical town of St. Francis and St. Clare. This morning we tour the Basilica of St. Francis, with its lower church containing the Crypt of St. Francis and actual articles belonging to St. Francis. The upper church houses the Frescoes of Giotto and Cimabue depicting the life of St. Francis and the famous painting Virgin and Child with Four Angels. We will see the Crucifix of San Diamiano and celebrate Mass at St. Francis Crypt. Then we will visit the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli ~ St. Mary of the Angels ~ containing the famous Porziuncola, the chapel where St. Francis consecrated St. Clare and where in 1226 St. Francis passed from this life into eternal life. Return to Rome for overnight. Free for dinner. (B/L)
Today after breakfast, we attend the Papal Audience with Pope John Paul II and blessings at St. Peter's Basilica. We will also have a guided tour of St. Peter's Basilica, and will have the opportunity to climb to the top to admire the beautiful view of Rome. Last stop will be at the Villa Borghese, one of the most elegant parks in Europe. This park is also home to the Galleria Borghese. Free for dinner and overnight Rome. (B)
This morning, we take a guided tour of the most magnificent museums and art galleries in the world ~ The Vatican Museum! Marvel at the Sistine Chapel with the great art works of Michelangelo…visit the Gallery of the Chandeliers, Gallery of Tapestries, geographical maps, and library hall. In the afternoon, we will also visit the Vatican Gardens. Dinner and overnight Rome. (B/D)
Today is a free day to spend at your leisure. Overnight Rome. (B)
Today, free day or take an optional excursion to Naples where we will see its highlights, including the Castle Dell Ovo, The Royal Palace and The Cathedral. We will continue on to Sorrento, an enchanting seaside town of orange and olive orchards, which is famous for its local religious arts, handicrafts, and inlaid wood items. Enjoy the sightseeing before returning to Rome. Free for dinner and overnight Rome. (B/L with excursion)
Today we will visit the highlights of Christian Rome, including the Cathedral of Rome and to the Catholic world, Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, the Aurelian Walls, and the Basilica of St. Mary Major. We will also see the “Palace of the Holy Steps”... the actual steps that Christ supposedly climbed when He was brought before Pilate. Then we travel down the old Appian Way to visit the Catacombs, where the early Christians were buried, including St. Sebastian, St. Callisto, and Domitilla. Farewell dinner and overnight Rome. (B/D)
After breakfast, we depart to the airport for the return flight home. (B)
